Debut of the Ferrari 296 LMGT3 in Qatar

The new Ferrari 296 LMGT3 race car made its track debut this week during the two-day Prologue event at Lusail International Circuit in Qatar. The 296 LMGT3 is the latest evolution of Ferrari’s competitive GT cars, bringing innovative technology and improved performance to endurance racing worldwide.

Technical Issues Resolved Quickly

The two 296 LMGT3 cars entered by the AF Corse team encountered minor technical problems early on. Car #54, driven by Flohr, Castellacci, and Rigon, had an issue with the flow meter, requiring an extended pit stop on Day 1. However, the crew quickly resolved the problem. Despite the setback, Car #54 set the second fastest time of 1:54.542 for the session. Car #55, driven by Heriau, Mann, and Rovera, finished Day 1 in 9th position, gathering important data to optimize the setup.

Blistering Pace on Day 2

On Day 2, the Ferrari 296 LMGT3 showed impressive raw speed once dialed in. Car #54 ran consistently among the fastest cars throughout the two sessions, securing 2nd place both times. The sister Car #55 also improved markedly on Day 2, jumping from 6th to 4th in the final session as the drivers extracted more performance. The Prologue proved the vast potential of the newest Ferrari LMGT3 challenger.

Promising Signs Ahead of 2024 Season

The successful debut bodes well for Ferrari and the AF Corse team heading into the 2024 endurance racing season. With the refinement of the setup and solutions now proven for early technical issues, the pace, and reliability of the 296 LMGT3 show promise to compete for wins and championships. The Prologue was the first step on a journey that Ferrari hopes will add to its legendary status in sports car racing with this latest chapter in Maranello.
